GEMORO ASSAY LAB Desktop XRF Gold & Precious Metal Analyzer

Get a clearer picture of the metal in front of you. The GEMORO ASSAY LAB XRF tester measures elemental composition at the surface of jewelry, coins, scrap and other metal samples, then displays the detected metals and their concentrations on its color touchscreen. It helps jewelers, gold buyers, pawn shops, appraisers and manufacturers make better-informed decisions about the material they handle every day.

This compact desktop precious metal analyzer uses X-ray fluorescence (XRF). During a routine surface test, there is no need to apply acid or melt the item. Position the sample in the enclosed chamber, run the analysis and review its elemental breakdown. The built-in computer lets you work at the instrument, with options to keep photos and export results for your records.

Features that make everyday testing easier

  • See the metal breakdown. Measure 24 supported elements, including gold, silver, platinum, palladium and rhodium. The results show composition rather than relying on a hallmark alone.
  • SDD detector technology. A silicon drift detector collects the XRF signals used by the analyzer to identify and quantify supported elements.
  • Simple touchscreen operation. The 7-inch color display puts sample positioning, testing and result review at the counter.
  • Two cameras with different jobs. An internal camera helps you aim the test at the intended part of the sample. The macro camera lets you attach an item photo to the test record.
  • Plating warning capability. The software provides an additional prompt to investigate potentially plated material. Always interpret warnings and results together with the sample's construction and other checks.
  • Record and share results. Export reports in PDF or CSV format. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB connectivity support data handling; the manual describes USB transfer to a Windows computer.
  • Countertop convenience with portable power. Use AC power at your bench or rechargeable battery power when relocating the instrument. The integrated carry handle and protective transport case help you move it with care.
  • Enclosed testing chamber. The shielded lid, leaded viewing glass and safety interlock are designed for closed-lid operation.
  • Controlled operator access. Passcode settings help limit use to trained staff.
  • Made in the USA. Supplied with a 3-year manufacturer warranty, subject to the manufacturer's terms.

A practical fit for jewelry businesses

For buying and intake: check the measured surface composition before deciding what additional verification or pricing work an item needs. For manufacturing and repair: investigate alloy composition and compare readings from different areas. For appraisal documentation: keep an elemental report and a sample photo alongside your other observations. A transparent test record also gives you something concrete to discuss with a customer.

How to use the GEMORO ASSAY LAB

  1. Start up and calibrate. Follow the manual's power setup. Allow approximately 2–3 minutes after startup, then run the daily calibration check with the supplied 316 stainless steel disc and the lid closed.
  2. Position the item. Remove the calibration disc. Put a clean, dry sample over the analysis window and use the internal camera to align the area you want to test.
  3. Close the lid and start. Secure the lid, then tap Start. Keep the lid closed until the screen indicates that the test is complete.
  4. Review and document. Examine the detected elements, concentrations and measurement uncertainty. Save a photo or export the result as needed. Check additional areas when the item's construction calls for it.

Which elements can it measure?

Gold (Au), silver (Ag), platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), rhodium (Rh), ruthenium (Ru), iridium (Ir), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), titanium (Ti), vanadium (V), tungsten (W), lead (Pb), bismuth (Bi), zirconium (Zr), molybdenum (Mo), cadmium (Cd), tin (Sn) and antimony (Sb).

Not supported: aluminum (Al), magnesium (Mg) and silicon (Si). Element detection is not the same as gemstone identification.

Included equipment

The manufacturer's documentation lists the analyzer, a 316 stainless steel calibration disc, rechargeable battery equipment, AC power equipment, computer connection cable, software setup flash drive, three replacement Kapton films and a screwdriver. The product listing also specifies a protective Pelican transport case.

Important notes before you buy

  • XRF reads the surface. It does not establish the composition of every layer or the entire volume of an item. Coatings, plating, irregular surfaces, solder and mixed-metal construction can affect how a reading should be interpreted.
  • Plating detection has limits. A plating warning is a screening aid, not a guarantee that every plated, filled or counterfeit item will be identified. The manufacturer recommends a spot-file and retest procedure when hidden layers are suspected. Filing changes the item and should only be done with permission.
  • Non-destructive testing and sample preparation are different. A routine XRF reading does not require cutting or melting. Additional preparation used to investigate concealed layers can be destructive.
  • Composition does not prove authenticity. Stainless steel identification or a precious-metal result does not authenticate a watch brand, coin or finished article.
  • Plan for compliant operation. This instrument contains an X-ray tube. Review the registration, training and operating requirements that apply where it will be used before purchase. Operate only as instructed; never bypass the lid interlock.
  • Protect the analysis window. Keep samples clean and dry, handle the instrument carefully and follow the manual's daily calibration, shutdown and maintenance guidance.

Frequently asked questions

It reports the supported elements detected in the tested surface area and their measured concentrations. This helps you assess the metal composition at that location. It does not by itself certify the whole item's purity or value.

A routine XRF surface reading does not require acid, melting or removal of material. If an item may have concealed layers, additional checks such as spot filing can damage the finish and require the owner's permission.

The ASSAY LAB includes a plating warning feature. However, an outer layer can conceal what is underneath. Treat this feature as an aid and follow the manufacturer's guidance for further testing when results or construction raise questions.

No. XRF measures the analyzed surface without consuming the sample during a routine reading. Fire assay is a different, destructive laboratory method. A surface XRF result is not a guarantee of the entire item's bulk composition.

Yes. All three are among the 24 supported elements. The list also includes gold, rhodium, iridium and several common base metals used in jewelry alloys.

No. The manufacturer's steel-identification software distinguishes certain stainless steel compositions, including 304, 316 and 904L, but matching a metal grade does not establish a watch's authenticity. This is a metal analyzer, not a diamond or gemstone identification instrument.

The embedded computer and touchscreen support operation directly on the analyzer. A separate computer is useful for keeping exported records; the manual explains transferring PDF or CSV files to Windows using the supplied USB cable.

Yes. The macro camera can capture a photo for the test record. You can then select results for export, including batches filtered by date.

Yes. The manual calls for a calibration check at the start of the day after the startup warm-up. Use the supplied 316 stainless steel disc, fully cover the analysis window and follow the on-screen procedure with the lid closed.

Yes. It supports rechargeable battery operation as well as AC power. The manufacturer rates a battery for up to approximately six hours of use. Follow the manual's instructions for power-source selection, charging and storage.

No. Remove the item and place it inside the testing chamber as directed. Testing requires the lid to be closed and the safety interlock engaged. Never put a body part in the chamber during operation.

Requirements vary by location. Before purchasing or operating an X-ray-emitting analyzer, check with your applicable radiation-control authority and complete any required registration or operator training. Read the GEMORO manual in full before use.
